Reasons, Why France lost to Argentina in FIFA 2022?

The FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar was a tournament of surprises and upsets, but none was more shocking than France's early exit at the hands of Argentina in the Round of 16. Les Bleus, who were considered one of the favourites to win the tournament, were outplayed and outclassed by an Argentine side that was determined to make a statement.

In this blog post, we will take a closer look at the five main reasons why France lost against Argentina in the FIFA World Cup 2022.

Lack of cohesion in the midfield: The French midfield struggled to connect with the forwards, resulting in a lack of fluidity in their attacks. The midfield trio of N'Golo Kante, Paul Pogba, and Adrien Rabiot were unable to establish a rhythm and often found themselves overrun by the Argentine midfield. Argentina, on the other hand, had a cohesive midfield that effectively distributed the ball to their forwards. The midfield duo of Leandro Paredes and Rodrigo de Paul controlled the tempo of the game and dictated the play, leaving the French midfield chasing shadows.

Weak defence: The French defence was repeatedly exposed by the pace and skill of the Argentine attackers. Despite their individual talent, the French backline failed to work as a unit and often left gaping holes for the Argentines to exploit. The Argentine forwards, led by Lionel Messi, were able to run at will and created numerous scoring opportunities. The French defence was also caught out of position on several occasions, which allowed the Argentines to score three goals in the match.

Injuries to key players: France was hit hard by injuries to key players like Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe. These injuries weakened the team's attack and left them unable to create enough scoring opportunities. Griezmann and Mbappe were the team's main attacking threats and their absence was felt on the field. The French attack was toothless without them, and they were unable to break down a well-organized Argentine defence.

Poor game management: French coach Didier Deschamps was criticized for his poor game management, particularly his decision to stick with a defensive formation even when trailing late in the game. This passive approach allowed Argentina to control the tempo of the match and secure the victory. Deschamps was reluctant to make any tactical changes and seemed content to sit back and defend, even when the game was slipping away from them.

Messi's Magic: Lionel Messi was on fire during the match, scoring twice and assisting on another goal. The French defence simply had no answer for the Argentine captain's skill and creativity. His performance was the main reason why Argentina won the match. Messi's ability to run at the defence and create scoring opportunities for his teammates made him the best player on the field. He was the catalyst for Argentina's victory, and his performance was a reminder of his greatness.

In conclusion, the French team had a talented squad, but they were unable to overcome the challenges presented by a strong Argentine side and a series of injuries to key players. Argentina, on the other hand, played with cohesiveness, solid defence and Messi's brilliance which helped them to seal the victory. The French team had the potential to go far in the tournament, but they were undone by their own mistakes and the brilliance of their opponents. It was a bitter disappointment for the French fans, but it serves as a reminder that in football, anything can happen.
